The Heal Your Emotions, Heal Your Life

Five Step System

Session Two

Module 2- Permanently Change Damaging Beliefs, Thoughts and Self-Criticism (Part 1)

Welcome everyone, to Session Two of The Heal Your Emotions, Heal Your Life Five Step System. We are now beginning part one of Module 2, designed to permanently change damaging beliefs, thoughts and self-criticism.

I did receive a couple of questions by email last week and I responded by email, but I want to address those now in case it will help anyone else in the group.

Patricia said she was having trouble understanding how the “no” side could be gifting her something that she would want to have. She asked, “Wouldn’t that be like being happy about receiving something negative?”

In the last session, I spoke about how every part of you is in love with you and wants to give you a gift. Sometimes the way it goes about giving the gift can be harmful, but the intention is good.

During the process, when you ask the “No’ side for its gift, if the answer seems negative you say to it (by whispering to it or by speaking to it in your mind’s ear) …

“I understand you are trying to give me _____________, but what will I receive that is positive if you give me that gift? What is your positive intention?”

You keep asking the question until you receive an answer that is a positive gift.

You never have to be positive about receiving something negative. You keep asking until you get a positive answer, because every part of you is always trying to give you a gift that is positive. You can stop the recording if you need more time to get a positive answer.

You want to find out why that part of you created a situation that is negative (an illness, for example). Ultimately, it could be that that part of you wants you to rest because you are pushing yourself too hard.

I also received a question from Julie. She asked….

“What do you do if during the exercise, you don’t get an “image” vision or “gift” or see something?  I can sometime see stuff but not easily – usually just nothing much so then I felt like I had to make up something so then I wasn’t sure I was doing it correctly & would get anything out of it. “

If an image or gift does not immediately come to mind, think to yourself, “If I could see an image or a symbol, what would it be?” The first image or symbol that comes to your mind is the correct one…whether it makes sense or not, and whether you like it not or not. It doesn’t matter. Just notice the first thing that comes to your mind and go with it. You could also stop the recording and sit for a few minutes until an answer comes to you. Getting yourself really relaxed before you start can also help, with dim lighting, and some relaxing music to unwind before you start. If you are not used to quieting your mind, it can be a little challenging at first.

Kari asked if it is okay to get different symbols each time you do the Healing Conflict Resolution, and the answer is yes. It is recommended that you do that particular process 7 times, especially if you have been diagnosed with an illness and you are having a hard time moving forward with your healing.

And now we move on to part one of Module 2, designed to permanently change damaging beliefs, thoughts and self-criticism.

Most people, when they have a thought, believe that thought is the truth. Just because you have a thought does not mean it is true. Human beings have 60,000 to 70,000 thoughts a day, and 90 percent of them are the same thoughts as the day before.

Your emotional life is created by what you see in your mind’s eye and what you hear in your mind’s ear. Your thoughts and beliefs create your emotional life.

The most influential programming of your subconscious mind, where most of your beliefs were formed, happened from birth through the age of 6 or 7. By observing the behavior of people in their immediate environment- mainly parents, siblings and relatives- children learn to distinguish between what are considered acceptable and unacceptable behaviors and beliefs. These perceptions acquired in very early childhood become the fundamental subconscious programs that shape the character of a person’s life.

A child’s perceptions of the world are downloaded into the subconscious mind during this time without the filters of the analytical self-conscious mind, which isn’t fully developed at that point. So, our fundamental perceptions about life and our role in the world are learned before we have the capacity to choose or reject those beliefs. We were all programmed with information and beliefs that influence 95 percent of our behavior for the rest of our lives. Those limiting or self-sabotaging beliefs and perceptions become our truth. We make all of our decisions and base all of our actions on those beliefs.

In the science of Epigenetics it is now understood that genes and DNA do not control our biology; instead, DNA is controlled by signals from outside the cell, including the energetic messages emanating from our positive and negative thoughts and beliefs. Implications of this research have radically changed our understanding of life. We now know that we control our destiny. The prevailing view of the scientific community prior to discoveries in Epigenetics was genetic determinism- the idea that your genes are fixed and outside of our conscious control. That view is now considered scientifically invalid.

Your thoughts and beliefs affect the cells of your body; they have the ability to strengthen or weaken your physical and mental health. Some of the most powerful external signals that influence the health of our cells are the energetic messages which emanate from our thoughts. Positive or negative, your thoughts can literally change our bodies and alter our physical health and wellbeing.

That is why it is so important to change beliefs that are not serving us, or are stopping us from living the life we want to live.

If, in childhood, we develop beliefs like, “I can never get ahead” or “I’m not worthy” or “It’s hopeless”, we will carry that belief with us through life. Our subconscious mind will generate behaviors that reinforce those programmed quote, unquote, “truths.”

The good news is that whatever has been programmed can be reprogrammed. Our mind creates mental representations of our experiences, and those representations, or “maps” can be changed.

That is what we will be doing in this session.

Prior to today’s session, I asked you to write down some of the beliefs you want to change….voices that you hear in your head, either in your own voice or someone else’s voice…saying things like “ I am not good enough” or “You’ll never succeed at anything.”

The Identify Core Beliefs Process

In order to get an idea of other beliefs you may want to change, I want to take you through a process that will give us some more information. We’re going to Identify some Core Beliefs.

Relax, with your feet flat on the floor and your hands free. Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and listen to my instructions.

** At the 9 minute, 30 second mark ( 9:30):

The Identify Core Beliefs Process**

Think about what came up as your core issue. For some of you, what came up was a surprise; many times people don’t realize what their core issue is. Some of you may not be surprised by the answer at all; it’s something you’ve known about for a long time.

Either way, think about the beliefs you have around that core issue. What do you believe that is intwined with that core issue? For example, if lack of self- love came up as your core issue, what do you believe about that? It is a belief like, “I’m don’t deserve anything”, or “Loving myself is selfish?” If so, that would be a belief you would want to change in the next process. A belief that is at the basis of your core issue is one that would be very important to change.

The Changing Core Beliefs Process

We will be doing the Changing Core Beliefs Process twice during this session, so you can choose to change a belief connected to your core issue, and another belief that you already have written down. You can choose any beliefs you want, I am just making a suggestion. And, of course, you can come back to this recording over and over again to change any belief you want going forward.

Relax now, with your feet flat on the ground, and your hands free as we begin the Changing Core Beliefs Process.

** At the 17 minute, 20 second mark ( 17:20):

The Changing Core Beliefs Process**

Notice how you either can’t hear the sentence at all anymore, or you can hear it but it has no effect on you. That belief is permanently gone and it won’t bother you again. I remember when someone took me through this process three times in a row. I was going through a stressful time and I had three damaging beliefs going through my head. It was on a Sunday. I felt great later that day, and then on Monday, I was straining to remember what the sentences were and what I was even upset about. I couldn’t remember anything about what I was upset about.

We have permanently changed your mind’s representation…the belief you had. And we’re going to do one more now. The more you get used to this process the easier it will be for you. And, as always, you can come back to this as many times as you would like in the future.

Isn’t it incredible to know that when you have a thought or a belief that is bothering you and holding you back, you have a tool to change it any time you want?

Let’s choose another belief and change it right now.

** At the 44 minute, 14 second mark ( 44:14):

The Changing Core Beliefs Process**

We will continue with belief change therapies next week. For the Belief Re-Imprint Process, think of something you want in your life that you feel like you can’t have. Some examples are overcoming an illness, having financial success or having a fulfilling relationship. For this process, I will ask you to establish a timeline on the floor, and to move backward several steps, and forward several steps. Make sure you have plenty of room to move back and forth!

As always, email me at with any questions that come up. I look forward to continuing our belief change work next Thursday at 3pm Pacific.
