Session 3

The Heal Your Emotions, Heal Your Life

Five Step System

Session Three

Module 2- Permanently Change Damaging Beliefs, Thoughts and Self-Criticism (Part 2)

Welcome to Session Three of The Heal Your Emotions, Heal Your Life Five Step System. We are now in Module 2, part two, continuing our belief change work.

As I have mentioned previously, it is not the events in our lives that cause or suffering, but our mind’s representations of those events. The good news is that those representations, or maps, can be changed. Our beliefs are maps that we base our decisions and actions on, but most of them are limiting beliefs.

What is a belief? It is an acceptance that a statement is true or that something exists. Beliefs are the maps that guide us toward our goals and give us the power to take action. The challenge is that most of our beliefs are limiting, and based on generalizations about our past, and on our interpretations of experiences. In this module, we are identifying beliefs that no longer serve us, and changing them so that we can remove the limitations they cause in our lives.

We are transforming limiting beliefs. In Tibet, they call it “Klesha Smashing.” A “Klesha is a belief that imposes limitation.

Most of us don’t take the time to examine our beliefs or how they shape our experience. Instead, we assume that they are true, and continue to live in a state of unhappiness. Sometimes the compelling power of belief causes us to defend our beliefs, no matter how uncomfortable they are for us, because the thought of challenging those beliefs causes a threat to our identity.

But what is the point of defending a belief that imposes limitations on our experiences? Beliefs are nothing more than linguistic patterns.

But these linguistic patterns are represented in our mind in a certain way.

Within our mental representations, or maps, are several submodalities, which human beings use to use to “code“  internal experiences using aspects of their different senses.

We have five basic senses: visual(seeing), auditory(hearing), kinesthetic(feeling), olfactory(smelling) and gustatory(tasting). These five senses are considered representational systems or modalities. For each of these modalities, we can have finer distinctions, or submodalities.

For example, we could describe a picture in our mind’s eye as being in black and white or in color, bright or dim, moving or still, close up or far away, large as life size or smaller. All of these submodalities affect the emotions we have about our thoughts.

The mind often uses these structural elements as a way to “know” how it feels about our thoughts. It has been discovered that the emotion associated with a thought is often linked to the submodalities with which that thought is presented to consciousness. That discovery led to the conclusion that changing the submodalites of the thought can change our emotional state, our perception about the thought.

The submodalities of the representation create a feeling, which leads to actions. If the feeling is one of fear or despair, we can easily see why we would want to change it.

The Submodality Belief Change Process

We are going to do The Submodality Belief Change Process now and you will understand this on a personal level.

Just relax now and follow my instructions.

** At the 3 minute, 42 second mark ( 3:42):

The Submodality Belief Change Process**

You can come back to this process again and again, and it will become more familiar each time you go through it. This is an extremely powerful tool that can continue to create shifts in your emotional life.

Limiting beliefs are often out of our awareness. We don’t realize how they affect our actions. As Henry Ford said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t –you’re right.”

The Belief Re-Imprint Process

In The Belief Re-Imprint Process, we are going to go back in time to discover an underlying belief that is preventing you from having what you want. For this process, you will need to be listening to me while standing, with plenty of room to move backward and forward. I want you to establish a timeline on the floor, with the future in front of you and the past behind you. Make sure there is plenty of room to take several steps forward and backward.

Think of something you want, but feel you can’t have. It could be a clean bill of health, financial success, a fulfilling relationship, or anything that seems as if it is out of reach to you.

Standing on the floor now, with your timeline established, let’s get started on The Belief Re-Imprint Process.

** At the 18 minute, 38 second mark ( 18:38):

The Belief Re-Imprint Process**

Take the time to go through this process as many times as you want, using other issues in your life. It will bring you back to the root core of the beliefs associated with those issues, and change them.

This concludes Session number three of THE HEAL YOUR EMOTIONS, HEAL YOUR LIFE FIVE STEP SYSTEM.

Next week, we will change upsetting visual images and painful stories, or traumas, from your past. Please have a Post-it sticky note to place on the wall in front of you, and be ready to sit in a chair looking at the Post-it note from several feet back, as far back as you can sit from the wall. You can paste a small piece of paper the size of a Post-it note to the wall if you don’t have a Post-it note.

Thank you for your participation in this program. I look forward to joining you one week from today for more powerful emotional changes.
